I am as happy working on location with a production team as I am working in my studio with things that spill. My career has given me a multitude of experiences.
The child of two working artists, I grew up in an atmosphere of creativity and playfulness, always knowing that I would be a working artist. I studied at Rhode Island School of Design and The School of Visual Arts, earning a BFA in illustration, thinking that I would become a magazine illustrator. And then I got hired as a freelance designer at CBS News. I never looked back. I loved the excitement and immediacy of the broadcast world and I loved creating moving pictures. I spent 5 years at CBS News and CBS Sports working as a designer and art director. Experience in broadcast design, motion graphics and art direction led me to NFL Films, where for 20 years, I oversaw the visual style of the company and built the graphics department. I was responsible for the look of all on-air, commercial and corporate work that NFL Films produced. We worked with FOX, ESPN, CBS, ABC, NBS, HBO, Nike, Reebok and many other companies. Additionally, I was in charge of the graphics package for the NFL NETWORK launch.
After a career with big companies, I felt the need to return to a more hands-on relationship with my work. I left NFL Films to form Felix Design with business partner, Daniela Kuehn. Dani and I did great work together for clients such as NASCAR, NFL, GSK, NY Knicks, Rohm and Haas, TED and Levis.
Life has taken Dani and me in different directions– she has returned to Germany where she grew up, and I am now focused on my work as a creative director and painter. Unlike video production, painting allows me the luxury of focusing on one image for a long time. I find that these two very different disciplines keep me energized and continuously re-enforce the importance of
CREATIVITY VERSATILITY AND COLLABORATION.
